Growing up in Wyoming at the base of the Big Horn mountains, we saw firsthand how the weather could change on a dime.
With an uncle who served on search and rescue, we heard the stories of hikers who got caught in a sudden fall snowstorm and couldn’t light a fire due to wet matches. This simple slip-up often cost them their life.
So, we set about working a way to easily generate a fire using a mechanical device with a precision machined mechanism that can work with frozen fingers, windy conditions, and a flurry of snow.
Being based in Bozeman, Montana, we settled on the name of Northern Lyte as a nod to our northern latitude and the weather that accompanies it.
